Christmas at Kleo's
December 22nd 2008 00:24
We are simultaneously cranking up and winding down here - as much as we relax, we are also thrown into a state of tension as we ensure christmas cheer and magic for every beast within our scope. Christmas at Kleos is not a stadard affair, but to us, it is, it couldnt be any other way, and heres how it goes...
Humans : Originally, it was to be mum, Kman and me, and I was going simple on the food. One chicken, a small amount of Turkey, not the whole bird, some salad and some trifle. Then it became known brother2 was coming. So I blew it out to 'The Whole Hog' which is a chicken, a turkey(whole bird) a whole ham, plus every kind of salad fixing (we dont do the roast - this is Australia people) which includes lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, eggs, beetroot, carrot, corn...Etc....Plus trifle, a double cheesecake - half caramel, half choc marble - plus the christmas table, nuts, lollies and shortbread, plus pudding, plus crackers, dip, camembert....Oh, and we have wine of 3 different varieties, some beer....There will be at minimum, 3 different kinds of bread and I make bake some if I get time. With the two boys eating - big boys they are too - 'The Whole Hog' is necessary to ensure theres some left when the women finally get to sit down!
If you're wondering about brother1 he cant come, but he called to put forth his christmas wishes. He was so blind he couldnt do more than caw "I love yous" through the phone. Family eh?
As for presents, Mum got new earrings from me and Kman, and a few things for the stocking like scented body moisturiser. Im not sure what I got Kman - he asked for the cash so I dont actually have anything to put under the tree for him. I may try and get a cigar for him to smoke on chrissie day, so Ive got my name on something. For brother2 mums going to let him attack her misbehaving computer - I can think of no better present for him. Im getting BattleStar 4 and a bunch of other DVds Im sharing with Kman.
The Rest?
BIRDS : The wild birds who live outside and come down for food will get numerous scraps and extra meat. Im not game enough to get Najara a present after last year - I bought her this way cool rope swing and she said it was out to kill her. Letting her pick through our salad plates, as well as leaving the garbage open for her to root through should be enough. Mums budgie BB and the warrior sparrow Xena will get seed bells. Im not sure what to give Pidgie....He wants a girlfriend, but I havnt got one of those. Maybe a long play time and a fly. The ducks will get a box of extra large crickets, yummy!
HORSES: Generally, every horse would get a gift as well as chrissie dinner, but we just havnt the cash for that. Horsie Chrissie dinner consists of - an extra large treat dinner. Treat dinner usually occurs on a Saturday and its how we get rid of old bread. For christmas there will be apples, bread and homemade treats, I go a layer of chaff then a layer of treats, more chaff, more treats and final chaff and grain. Plus straight molasses on every layer. Mum goes yesterday - "Are you sure we wont give them colic?" I said well, you say that every year, and we wont be the only horse people wondering that! They will get fed early on chrissie day too, so they can lay in the sun warming their full bellies. I know the appearance of homemade treats will make everyones christmas - we used to have treats all the time, until they turned into little monsters over it, so now its a special occasion thing. Oh, and Im making apple muffins.
DOGS: Mums got that covered - left overs for dinner and plenty of toys, new balls and teddies.
CATS: We have bought combined presents - bags of ping pong balls, fake mice and feathers. We have to get a rabbit fur rat for Sampson and some more Fancy Feast bikki, their absolute favourite. Also a fancy feast dinner each plus Cravers.
I think thats everybody....Rest assured, no one is ever forgotten here. Christmas for me swings wildly between being wacked out fully relaxed on the couch to running up and down the hallway mediating animals. For now Im enjoying my man being home while my mums not - the few rare days we actually get to act like a dumb young couple - and working up the excitement for christmas. The most important thing about Kman being here, aside from just being with him, is that my house schedule revolves around his work schedule. Making sure he can leave on time in the morning and go to bed early at night. Kman and I are night animals, so, when works finished, we stay up all night and the whole time schedule dissapears. I might even take a bath in the middle of the day - Sinful!
Merry christmas all, dont forget your pets - ours gather around the tree patiently at present time and so should yours - and please, be silly this silly season!

QUOTE ME NO QUOTES!
that was a marvelous read!!
Your Christmas really captures the essence that most people forget, giving is what receiving is all about, and including the animals, you sound just like my family, (only much vaster and unique) as we always gave our dogs and cats a pressie!
Cheers and may you have a lovely happy and peaceful Christmas and a fabulous New Year, which brings you much joy and luck!

Cheers and may your bank account next year fare better than mine.
Give Kman and All the animals a big hug from me ( I promise to let him alone on the day ) and I'll join Mum to talk about all our deficient children.
Love and peace and good will ( if you can work out what any of those are.
I'll pop in to see fog and his pooch on my way home.
