Kalikapsychosis - " All I see is 6 billion lunatics looking for the fastest ride out. Who's not crazy? Look around. Everyone's drinking, smoking, shooting up, shooting each other, or just plain screwing their brains out....Cos they don't want 'em anymore. I'm Crazy? Honey, I'm the original one eyed chicklet in the Kingdom of the blind, cos at least I admit the world makes me nuts." - Glory

Currawong! - Christmas miracle!

December 24th 2008 05:30
As you know the terrible infants, the Koels, have been dominating our bushland. Their cries grow more mature by the day and their currawong parents are afraid to feed them, fearing their heads will be bitten off by the massive jaws. Its quite cruel the response when there is not enough food.

I just went out to help mum unpack the car. A small black bird moved furtively from the underbrush to scuttle ahead of me and land on the gate in front of mum and ask for food. I thought it was a chough. I got a bit closer and exclaimed....

"ITS A BABY CURRAWONG!!"

He's so tiny and shaggy, with bits of skin on the edge of his beak. Imagine the life this poor bastard has had. He was so lucky - his egg would have been the only one to be left in the nest when the horrobile mother Koel pushed out the others to lay her own. Then, to be born next to the koels, he must have been rolled out of the nest to avoid being eaten. Now his parents chase the terrible enfants about while he picks scraps and wonders what the hell is going on.

Im so angry that the currawongs got duped, and have abandoned their true child to this horrific childhood to feed the monstrous cuckoos.

Im so happy that they managed to have a baby at all. Im so touched, that he survived. So excited, to finally see the baby currawong I was waiting for.

Thats a real christmas miracle, in my book. What courage, what tenacity! You've come to the right place mate, we wont let you fail. More meat, little fella? Want some turkey with that?

Hi Kleo,

A really heartwarming tale for Christmas, thanks for sharing the miracle, indeed!

We rescued a little Lorakeet the other day from a pack of maggies who were pecking it to death... dont know what was wrong with the little fella, looked like the wing was broken, but we took him to the vet to arrange a wildlife carer, as we were heading out for a few days R&R.

I hope he made it too...

Enjoy your little fellas company.

Ps *sorry I was interrupted*

We also had a young Currawong visit the garden yesterday, very cheekily marching into the rumpus garage to find the left over cat food! *lol*

So I looked it up in my Totem book and its quite an auspicious thing to have one of these little fellas come along offering the following advice;

Act on any and all opportunities that present themselves to you without hesitation.
Pay attention to any sign and omens as they will serve to guide you ~ whether visual, auditory or kinesthetic.

Be especially clear and strightforward in your verbal communication, saying only what you mean whilst at the same time listening carefully to what the other person is saying.

Make certain you are using your intuitive and psychic gifts with pure intention and egoless service.

It is important now to bring yourself to balance if you are polarised too much in one direction or another, such as with masculine~feminine, intellect~emotions, or spiritual~mundane polarities.

Me I just love to wake up to their warbling and singing! Nothing quite like that magic in the morning, hey?

Hey Lilla,
They do indeed have a glorious song. We ended up catching her on boxing day - the feral cats were after her so she's now in a cage on the back deck. She clucks for food and its so cute! Its a bit disappionting the mother currawong has come under the deck to attack her...Very sad.

The big babies are 'cullid billed cuckoos' or 'storm birds' if you google them you can find lots of pictures of them being fed by currawongs. They are the largest of the cuckoo family. Thanks for the totem advice...Very useful.
