Fallen Beast

The Beast crashed.
She saw it coming - she kept beating those magnificent wings, feeling them tearing at her breastbone as her arms tried to keep them aloft. Beat, beat, beat, still, they grew heavier. Using her great will, she pumped hard against the Winds of Change - now turned savage - and pushed harder to stay in the air. Multi coloured feathers - of dusky ocher and rain grey, dark black shadow and pristine white - began to fly, searing from her wing flesh, as they were ripped out, and she struggled.
She swore she heard a maniacal laughter as the Winds of Change flipped beneath her, the great thermals dropped out, spun like a bad wave, and came up at the wrong angle. Her heavy, tired wings couldnt take it. Her long capable body couldnt fathom it. She fell.
Sin, though concerned, did nothing.
Kali, bored, did nothing.
Jesus, beyond caring, watched and did nothing.
Lucifer was driving through the thermals, hot on her tail. He had been following in her slipstream, immortal, the mighty gusts of the Winds of Change did nothing to him. He had been driving hard against it, chasing her form, waiting...waiting.....Waiting for this moment.
For, even though Lucifer did not like to fly, he was superbly good at it.
He watched.
Flung down by the Winds of Change, barely escaping being dashed against the Rock of Ages, The Beast barely avoided the Valley of the Shadow of Death. With the last of her waning strength she managed to throw out a wing tip to steer herself towards the Plain of Purgatory and allowed herself a small, hollow and helpless scream as the wing caught against the flat, hard earth. The force of her own momentum, and the punch of the wind behind her caused her to flip, rolling hard against the red rock as the breath blasted from her ethereal form. The only thing that stopped her breaking every bone in her body was the thought - held hard and steady in her mind - that here she had no bones to break.
Still, when her roll finally stopped, she could feel blood oozing from dozens of cuts, swelling beginning from many injuries and purple beginning to show from hundreds of contusions. Her right cheek stung fiercely. She intended to lay still for a moment - uncomfortable as she was, wings holding her askew, hard rock beneath her - and get back some breath out of that magical ether-air, try and envision somewhere to go, something to do.
Lucifer saw the fall. He closed his wings and arrowed towards her, folding the wings down as he closed the gap....And pounced like an eagle.
He grabbed her roughly by the wing ends, the hard sturdy bases where they disappeared into the shoulder blades. He used his own momentum now, to force another roll, bringing her up, flipping her, to grab her shoulders and scowl into her face. He shook her hard, roared, "YOU!" and enjoyed her recoil. The very nature of the Beast meant she did not often fear, but he was Lucifer. It was his purpose to make even God fear.
She cowered, and wriggled, even though she knew there was no escape. He forced her eyes up. "I have a bone to pick with you" he hissed, "And the way Im feeling, I might just make it one of yours"
"What?" Her voices was weak. Oh, damn it, but wasnt she good at looking all innocent? With her bruised up face, cut on her right cheek leaking just a little of that jewel red blood, how it glittered, even in her mortal form. Tears of shock and shame began to run down her cheeks. He didnt judge her for them - she still had along way to go in controlling her ethereal form.
"How dare you" he breathed. She cowered. He had a feeling she knew exactly what he was referring to. "How dare you call me, ask for me, and want me......How dare you kiss me and suck up so much of my precious darkness......When deep inside yourself you had no desire to be Black at all!"
She cried for real now, sobs that came up from under the diaphram and made real tears, even snot. For christs sake, she was as useless as any human at this point! Where was her Strength? Her Knowledge?
"I didnt mean it," she moaned, "I really meant to go black, I really really did! I only just realized that place inside me never meant it. I swear Lucifer, I really wanted it this time! Please help me!"
On the Wind, Lucifer heard Kali laughing. Roaring with it in fact....That Bitch Mother of his! Was this what she had meant when she said the Beast was incapable of choice? Was Kali really going to make this one responsable for New Shades of Grey throughout the ages? That didnt seem fair.
If possible, Kali laughed even harder.
He gave the crying Beast another shake. "I should tear you to shreds!"
In an echo of Kali, The Beast laughed. It was bitter, and harsh. "Well go ahead Prince of Darkness, keeper of Sin. I cant stop you" and raised her eyebrows invitingly.
He threw her down, against the rock. Stalked off a step or two. Indeed, it would do no good, for anyones cause, no matter how much satisfaction it would give him. The Beast was sucking in deep breaths. He knew, a nice thing to do for her, would be to get her back up to the top of the Rock of Ages, where she could plot her next step. Here in the Purgatory Plains she could run into anything, it was a veritable super highway of souls, all kinds of souls. Lots more here now than down in the Valley of the Shadow of Death. Like shit, back in the old days you couldnt move down there for the souls elbowing past each other. It had made fun for him though, and all his demons.
But over the last few centuries fear of death had faded away. Now only a few walked the Valley, mostly those dead in violence and unsurety, or those old fashioned souls that still believed utterly in Heaven, Hell and the Holy Gospel. Lucifer could almost pity those DumbFucks. They'd get halfway down the Valley, scream for Christ to save them, only he couldnt....Because they believed more in the Devil than they did in God. It was more acceptable to have a Hell than it was a Heaven. Those poor bastards still had a long way to go.
Still, he never got tired of the looks on their faces when he appeared to take them to their punishment. Oh, if only he could tell them, "You know, you were so close, like a finger breadth, from Heaven. But instead of Faith in Jesus, you had faith in me. Thankyou for your belief - Hell grows to splitting seams thanks to you and all your kind"
Couldnt say shit like that though. Thanks to Jesus and all his bloody rules and regulations. That long ago talk in the tomb didnt seem to be good for either of them.
A stream of souls suddenly raced past, none had known each other in life, but they had died in about the same time and place (Earthly speaking) thus were grouped together. They were chattering wildly - and with great hope - about Discovery and Mysticisim and Spirituality. Not one of them said the word 'Jesus' or 'Lucifer'. Quite a few said 'Athiest'. Lucifer scowled. Those bastards had a long way to go too. If only more were like The Beast....
He looked at her. She was sitting up now. Her wings were useless, broken and bloodied. With her bruised spirit and sad heart, she wouldnt have the strength to rebuild them. She'd have to get back to Earth, meditate, do healthy things for her body and soul in the only place it could be measured.
Even miserable, she remained, stubbornly, grey. It seemed to shine out from her with a luster and a steady emmenance that not even true White or true Black could match.
He was so disgusted with her. He decided to leave her there. She was Kali's pet after all. Let her save the Beast.
Sin swooped down and landed on his shoulder. She cocked her head at the beast briefly, and cawed at him. Enough then, they were off to work.
"I hope you rot" he spat at her.
"No doubt I will one day, Lucifer-Love"
He scoffed. Stepped off the plain and spiralled off.
The Beast closed her eyes and remembered her body, her Earthly body. Mortal. Heart that beat, hot blood that swished, lungs that drew in the air of Earth, skin that felt like it was being stroked.......Mortal lids lifted from wet eyeballs, and she woke in bed.
