Goodbye Patrick
September 15th 2009 01:18
As you know if you are a reader of my blog, I have admired Patrick Swayze for years and not just for his attributes on the screen. He has made significant contributions to the horse showing and breeding world, and I was saddened today to hear that the great man has finally succumbed to his illness.
It is always a particular shock when the person in question has decided to take the fight to the disease, vowed not to give up and battled so mightily. Its almost like a death of hope, as they went into it believing that the fighting spirit was all that was needed, only to find that the disease won after all.
Today it is a reminder to me that the other side waits for us all, and this is not necessarily a bad thing. "Let it all be as it is" I read recently. Tears spring to my eyes as I imagine that Patrick is finally reunited with his beloved Tammen. There shall be a party on the other side tonight, to celebrate two old friends once more dancing together.
I'll see you when I get there, old friend. Though we feel your presence still, your light shall be missed. Ride like the wind boys, you deserve it.

Can't say I was ever a fan of Swayze but some of his films are fun guilty pleasures (Point Break, the Outsiders, Red Dawn, Roadhouse etc)...Donnie Darko being the only performance I actually believed him in. ( i do know that he was a king of self parody and forever the Chris Farley SNL sketch will be comedy gold)
Though i do not grieve his loss in the cinema world, in the the real world he was by all reports a stand up guy who bought a positive energy to those around him. This is where my sympathy focuses, on his family and friends who loved and knew him.
One of those cases where the human being was far more important than his screen image.

What shall I call you?
I dont always agree with that statement. It can be just as hard to leave as to be left.
Dearest John Doe,
Been awhile!
In my related post I talk a lot more about his impact on the horse world. He had a keen eye for picking good horses and bred for the overall horse rather than show trends and I admire any breeder who can do that. Its my own personal campain so I was happy to share it with him. I barely mentioned his screen fame for that reason.
Seen the end of Battlestar yet? I finished it recently, it did not end like I thought it would! I'm now going to start all over again....
