Infection

August 4th 2008 04:57
Infection can do funny things to a body. It astounds me that a great majority of people are wondering around with infections and they dont even notice. I always do. Infection has a particular feel, it makes itself known. It draws strength from you, it plays tricks on your mind, weakens your will and sucks fun out of your life.

You remember my last infection? Where they tried to tell me it was an asthma attack? Since the antibiotics of that infection, Ive experienced splitting pains in my left ear and down the left side of my face. The argumentative quak at the time told me nothing was wrong with my ears or throat.

Well, Monday we had some issues. Zayfir is larger than life, feeling the coming spring in the swelling of his balls. He's taken to slipping through fences, like both his Father, The Ghost horse, and his mother, Enchantress supreme, he is king of transmography. He can slip through solids like vapour. However, once eyes are upon him, the glamour is broken and he cant get back out again. So, with fences utterly demolished, a screaming wind knifing through the place threatening to send them all to kingdom come, little Kleo decided to take the day off and re fence the joint.

I fenced for about 6 solid hours. My hands were in utter agony - the strain of tensioning, the layers of skin ripped off by line screaming through my palms. Im also experiencing a new twist in my arthritis - joints swollen, red and inflamed, itchy even. They get so swollen that the knuckles just crack open, leaving me with little red weeping cuts.

So, after fighting with the horses I decide to round up the day. Feeding time. I decide to put Teshan in the house yard, just to allay future problems. She refuses. Rather than chase her, I decide with the lines zapping at almost 100% Zayf should be safe.

I am immersed in a steaming hot bath full of herbal muscle soak trying to get my mind into a meditative state when mum knocks on the door to tell me he's out again - trapped between the electric and wire fences. How he gets in at all is a mystery to me, but I heave myself out of the water, put my filthy clothes back on, and head out. I cut the fence to get him out, and repair it. Then, I must get Teshan into the house yard. They cannot be left together. He tries constantly to breed her, while she tries continously to knee cap him....Im sure you can see how this is a no win situation?

So, I release The Zayf. My reasoning, the method to my madness, is that Teshan will see him out, and go straight into the house yard where it looks safe and cozy and coltless, also where there is food on tap, ready and waiting. The trick with horses is to create the road you want them to go down, and make all the others look unattractive. I constantly forget however, how Teshans madness puts mine to shame.

Enter 2 hours of hell. Sweat running down me from the heat of the bath, despite the freezing wind and rain pounding me, as I run from one end of the 4 acres to the other trying to herd Teshan into the house yard. Soon all 5 horses are wearing sweat as they pound from one end of the property to the other feeding on Teshans insanity. She makes several stops by the open gate - only to snort, throw head and tail in the air, and bolt once more, Zayfir hot on her heels. I start to get mean now - forcing her away from the water troughs, screaming, waving my arms. Eventually, I open the other yard, throw some food in, and walk away. Furtive as a deer she takes the bait, I lock her in, drive Spirit and Shakir to the house yard, and leave Mags and Zayf out. We dont like horses in that yard - its overpopulated with trees, no good in a rain storm, and is against a road. Not safe. But by this time of night, Im betting Teshan can take care of herself.

On Sunday afternoon, Teshan, the horse that will not be caught, came to me for a cuddle. "Gee, Im sorry mum. I didnt realize you just wanted me to come in here"

*slaps forehead*

I knew the sickness was coming. Tuesday at work I felt rotten and performed abominiably. Wednsday I did well, Thrusday was beginning to slide, and the only thing that got me through Friday and Saturday was cold and flu tablets. I crawled to the doctor on Saturday afternoon. This quak reckons Ive got the same infection I had before, and never got over it. He's put me on extra extra strong antibiotics. I didnt really want to take antibiotics, but Ive got to kick this thing.

Im doing all the Kleo remedies - juice, tea, tons of water, my super spaghetti, whatever rest the animals will allow me. Works probably going to dock me. But I can argue about that later. Hopefully when Im not infected.

Sometimes the only things that work are those super all powerful antibiotics you need an authority for. I think many infections have become resistant to the run of the mill stuff. Good luck, hope you feel better.

Seems to me that you need to take some antibiotics after you give the wild bunch some horse tranquilizers.

Then, finish the soak and pamper yourself. Get well and do it now . . . if only that were possible.

Johnny,
Thanks for the concern mate. Its sad, but true, that most of our infections are now superbugs....Im flooding my system with garlic, doesnt seem to be helping.

Raven,
I have all animals in a stable pattern and happy, for now. Ive been having multiple soaks and lots of sleep...Back to work tomorrow, and I only just got the cough!
