Its no secret, I hate my job.
I really hate hating my job, because its not the jobs fault. Rephrase - not ENTIRELY the jobs fault. Some of the procedures and reasons for doing things can only be described as ancient, and lets face it, in this day and age, with generation X and Y running around wanting more and wanting it now, jobs have got to do better to keep us interested. This has got to be, the WORST dead end job Ive ever seen. There are no promotions, no payrises, no chance for elevation of position, (unless you want to become a copper) and the job does not change. Every day - the same shit, the same routine.
And lets not think too hard about the working conditions - the stables so hot the poor horses sweat into lather just standing there, and we WORK in that heat. You try and pace yourself, but with supervisors crawling up your arse (at the exact same time theyre telling you to take it easy) its hard not to just go hell for leather. Also, immersed in torture, you do the human thing and want it over as quick as possible, and hurry.
Im not a morning person. If I see 4am I can only cope if Ive been up for the previous 12 hours - then 4am is quite welcome. My brains active as I wait for the Dawn Wind to lull me to sleep. Being jarred OUT of a sound sleep to welcome 4am is quite another matter, and its making a bitch of me. Not to mention long, long travel hours and being so tired my temper is a quick petrol soaked fuse. Its killing me, quite simply. Its causing real damage to my body and slowly squeezing the life outta my spirit.
I had a couple of escape routes and when I began to claw the edges of the cage like a rat I scurried towards my bolt holes only to find them locked against me. Theyd been false!
So, like a good rat, I kept sniffing. I applied for other positions, dutifully polishing and cutting my CV like precious gem, making sure 'NSW POLICE' was clearly visible at the top. See, I must be such a good little worker....I can prove it.
All applications disappeared into that black hole where they go and you never get a reply. Being tired and bitchy and time poor I never called them back and just got bitter over it. I started to take more and more days off, wondering how I was going to survive.
Yesterday, I saw a ray of light.
At the feed place, they want a casual. I took down the details eagerly, but wasnt too confident. I knew they werent offering much money. But, it being a little place full of horsey communicae, I realized there are stable hand and track work jobs abound. I took down the details and started thinking about applications.
Oh, then, and then, What happened next?
I cant tell you. Im afraid I'll jinx it. Its too perfect.....Its something Ive wished for and wanted since I entered the working world. Its a solution, and its a good one.
Ive spent all day on the application, resume and cover letter. Hunting down old refrees and asking if they'll put their name to it. Its completed - set to go tomorrow.
And Im thinking.....Maybe the universe knows exactly whats its doing after all. Maybe I really have been exactly where I need to be, all along.
All my lovely psychic ladies here......Help me sprinkle the fairy dust will you? Im giving it my all.
