Kalikapsychosis - "Perfection is what its about. When you can feel, the perfection, of creation. The beauty of physics, the wonder of mathematics all the elation of action, and reaction, and that is the kind of perfection that I want to be connected to" - Sam, hooked into the data stream

OH! The rain is here the rain has come!

June 14th 2007 05:33
Oh, what a day for weather today has been!
Utter cold to wake me up. Ive figured out a new way of layering my clothes so I keep extra warm, and I'll tell you the secret - wear flannel pygamas under your clothes!LOL.
So, today Ive watched the sky. The rains been predicted for days, but theyre often wrong. Today I had complete faith - It was going to rain. The clouds got steadily lower as they painted over us. The wind whispered. The cold grew. I saw the rain in the distance and now....
Over my head it roars. Down in impenatrable curtains it comes. Oh how lovely, Oh how sweet, to be hemmed in, caught in cosyness, by the rain.
Ive got to say - Good Boy Magnus! Last Friday when the storm pretending to be a cyclone was going strong, Teshan made Shakir and Spirit stand out on the hill for about 6 hours. Shes such a bitch! Theres a lovely dry shelter there, but no, they are out on the hill, Teshan with her moon like fat belly and bear thick coat standing up tall and giving 'The Speech' "Well, you young whippersnaps, when I was your age, there werent no humans, there werent no rugs and no regular feeds. No siree, when I was your age, you just settled yourself in the rain and DEALT with it, yes, thats right boys, the Old Fashioned way. Put your bum to the wind side and bear up!"
I dont understand why Shakir didnt declare a mutiny. He's been outvoting her a lot under the grounds of - Horse Law Clause # 157 - It is not in my day as it was in your day - And Im younger and stronger and kick harder so hahah I win. But no, that day they stood on the hill and copped it. Magnus and Zayfir were in the house yard, huddled under the carport, looking longing through the window into the house. They werent involved in the 'Real Horse' debate.
Well, today, Mags and Zayfir were out(still out!) and as the rain came pouring down Mags shot his head up in the air. Im so proud of him. This horse has never spent longer than 5 mins in the rain in his life - hes always had someone run him to his box at the first drizzle. Normally he'd just run around flapping hooves - "Im getting wet! Im getting wet! LOOK at my WHITE socks! Its going to take me all night to get these clean!"
Today, no supermodel tantrum, no show horse monolouge on how much better he is than anyone else. Im sure while Teshan was still mid sentence in her "My Day Speech" Mags' head shot up, looked around, and said with great finality - "Just a sec Mom, sorry to interrupt, but dont you know its raining? We're all going to get terribly cold and wet - lets finish this discussion in the shelter shall we?"
I watched him lead them triumphantly up the hill, straight towards the shelter. Spirit and Zayfir were bolting after him - "We sure dont wanna get wet!" and Teshan was plodding along with ears back - "Where are you going? What are you DOING? DONT go near the HUMANS" While Mags threw over his shoulder - "Its all good mum. The human mum needs to know. She'll feed us, trust me, its all good" while Shakirs poor little head takes a turn as he should be doing what magnus is doing!
I should mention, Teshans terms are unfair. Shes the fattest and she also has the thickest coat. Even when she gets rained on it doesnt reach her skin. Shes also pumped full of estrogen, so Im not surprised she can handle a straight 6 hours in freezing, driving rain! Even if Madam High and Mighty did shiver like mad after her 6 hour stand......The poor geldings are GELDINGS. They have no testosterone to keep them warm like zayfir does. Poor spirit hasnt even grown a coat. Mags, Zayfir and Spirit are all rugged, Shakirs not, but if he needs one I'll find him one. Teshans 'toughness' speech doesnt go down too well with me....Shes such a bitch. The herd would be better to listen to Shakir.....Or in this case, Magnus!
But Im loving the drizzle sound......The rain hitting the roof. The great rivers of it running from the roof to hit the ground. The pounding whisper, the loving roar of it. The change in air pressure, the magnificent, ever interesting clouds, forever changing, the cold.....The Glorious cold! I love the birds piling into the back deck, prey and predator all become friends in a rain storm......
But the sound.....The roaring, the whispering, the drizzling, the drumming, the running......
Its taking me away......

I love the rain too K... I`ve said it so many times about African rain.... oh the storms and the smells - there is nothing quite like them.

We used to have a Houseboat up on one of the BEST Lakes in Africa - Lake Kariba - you would not believe the beauty of this place - and the storms would just sneak up on you. You could see the clouds in the distance and then all of a sudden they were upon you and you had these madly waving reeds and rocking water and there was nowhere you could go.

I love how you tell us what your horses say K because I have not had the pleasure of learning their language before. I used to love going horse riding... ~laughs~ once I begged my boyfriend to go horseriding with me and eventually after 2 months he caved and off we went through the bush. 2 hours later and I was still in heaven - watching the birds, getting really close to giraffe (not too happy about being taken through the spider webs) so we get to the end of the ride and are nearing the stables. Problem is we are down at the dam and the stables are up this MASSIVE hill where we are supposed to WALK UP nice and calmly.

Not my horse, no way! He shot up that hill like a bullet from a gun - with me on his back, loosing the reins and the stirrups... my bf said I sounded like a siren going up the hills, my screams echoing off the granite rock. oh my word I haven`t been on a horse since then - love them far more from a distance now where I can woo them with my charm

Dear Darling Dervish Dusk....
Why thankyou! Rain and horses.....Couldnt really be anything else!
Ash,
You make me so jealous. I think I must have been in Africa in a past life, I can just SEE those storms screaming over the heavenly landscape! Sounds so beautiful!
And my dear, that horse was LHFAO at you! Horses just love people they can 'take for a ride'. Horse langauge is easy - theyre all poets. Its like trying to translate japanese to english - They say "My what a day, where faeries play and rain falls like tears of angels, so sweet to be alive!" Most people only hear "Im hungry, put my rug on"
Its all body language. Skin twitches. Head bobs. Tail flicks. Nostril flares and different breathes. Oh, and dont forget leaning and scratching! To scratch a horse on the whithers at the base of the neck while leaning on him means "We are mates and we're safe grooming each other. I trust you and you trust me and its beautiful"
People who dont have animals think Im a nut. People who do have animals say "Yep, thats what he said, I heard it" Mum and I often have 3 way conversations with Magnus! I wish I could teach you hands on....Youd love the intimacy of horses. Theyre all about hugs.
Tammy,
Ha! its funny, cos it was an accident! I ran out of tights to wear and Ive got these old flannel pants with a rip up the bum. I thought, yeah, that'll do, and I cant believe I never thought about it before!
Dont worry, I'll have more - My horses never shut up! Ive got to tell you more about Teshans 'meetings' shes been having them for years!

I love the rain too! Love hearing the pitter-patter on the windows...or the even the high-pitched tones on an old zinc roof (granny's old place...!). Then...it all feels and smells so clean...
