Our Christmas Sacrifice
December 24th 2008 04:50
Im not feeling that usual magic today. Christmas Eve generally has a certain magic and mystery to it, and today is not quite as enchanting as Id hoped. I can pin point it - I know what it is.
This year, our many different coloured lights are not blinking cheerfully through the window. Neatly wrapped presents are not stacked beneath the tree. We do not have dangly decorations or christmas cards hanging up.
Why?
KITTENS!!
We erected the tree with minimal decoration, Niah has taken two baubles so far and thunked them up and down the hallways mercilessly. Darla has eaten liberal amounts of purple tinsel. If there were lights on the tree, we'd have a fried cat or dog by now. Likewise, if there were presents under the tree, theyd be in pieces by now! These are such little things that contribute to the feeling of christmas that this year, we have had to give up. Im going to get into some serious wrapping soon, but Im not sure where to put the gifts. We have to hang the stockings at some point and doubtless they will come straight down again.
Its worth it to see the happy babies playing with our cats - they own this place now.
As for tomorrow, its set to be great, mum and I sorted the food out, so for the entirety of tomorrow we may just eat and drink. I recieved word that sista in law is coming too, with her man, and guess wot.....She's bringing me all her leftover clothes! After so many years of wearing hand me downs, I have come to love sista in laws garbage bags of cast offs so much more than anyone elses - the gals got taste!
Starting to wind up into that explosive excitement - Merry Christmas people!
