Kalikapsychosis - "Perfection is what its about. When you can feel, the perfection, of creation. The beauty of physics, the wonder of mathematics all the elation of action, and reaction, and that is the kind of perfection that I want to be connected to" - Sam, hooked into the data stream

The rain

May 18th 2007 01:06
The rain took me by surprise.
Ive been waiting for it, since Monday, when they predicted it for 3 beautiful days. However, Tim Bailey changed his mind on Tuesday night, and I was truly beginning to believe it wasnt coming at all.
Our roof is tin, but the house is well insulated, so I was not awoken by the almighty lovely drumming racket, I was half way between sleep and awake, moments before the alarm, when I heard....Drizzle.
While I lay there, wrapped in the puffy, snow white doona, trying to untangle my feet from its many holes, I listened. I listened to patter, to drizzle, to drop and running stream. Incessant, constant, it raised its whispering voice while I lay amoungst its chattering, thinking....
How long since Ive heard your voice......
Rain to me does not just mean water from the sky. That, in and of itself, is enough to be joyful about. But rain to me means water, it means damp. It means beloved clouds over the sky, patterns of dark and pearl but never blue. It means the detested Sun is covered, defeated, conquered. It means cold, and it means....
Awaking to a house that in sun is bright and garish, that in sun has colour and light forced down its throat, forced to be bright no matter what its mood....
That while waking in rain is dark.....Darker than twilight. Lights are turned on, but only enough to guide my way while I work in the days length of twilights.....
A day of rain is a day where I am truly myself. The earth pulls in on herself - all animals conserve energy, while the plants and trees open their mouths and sing and drink at the same time....
Strong gusts blow hard drops against the window as it comes down thick and heavy, a wall of water that cannot be pierced by my mere mortal eyes. It lessens, it becomes soft and gentle, tiny wisps of drops being blown like snow flakes. Even when it lessens to the point of being merely moisture soaked air it does not stop....
Cannot, for I will not let it. I enjoy this day too much, a day of cosyness and warmth within wetness, embracing of the dark and cold while at the same time part of me does the human thing and snuggles up tight and comforted.....
But I do so love the rain. The cumulitive aspects that to me add up to total perfection.....The sound, (of it on the tin roof, of its drizzle off, of its tears hitting the ground in a harmonic symphony...) The feel(of it on my skin, of breathing it in through my lungs, of the slickness of a Gum leaf...) The darkness..(Of the sky and of our tiny human domiciles, a dark which is so close to but not quite night) The wind..(rainy day breezes have their own magic, countered by raindrops they skew into strange shapes..)
And the comfort of warm bodies as we cling together, feathers and fur and long dripping manes, as we gather together and whisper and point....
And watch the rain.

Hmmmmm, it is very nice today isn't it.

I woke up early myself at around 5:45 am and just lay in the dark listening to both the rain and the water dripping through the hole in the gutter. It was such a sweet sound.
Even the sound, look and feel of the big 10 minute downpour we had before was seemingly so serene even though it was also a little threatening.

I hope it continues........

I was just watching all the rain you are having on the morning news.... it`s beautiful isn`t it? We have also been blessed with a few days downpour... oooh I love the rain too.

In Africa a rain storm is the most amazing experience. The smell as the storm builds up is like no other and the birds get all excited... you can feel the anticipation in the air. Then suddenly everything goes quiet and you can hear the rumbles in the distance. It`s like a huge energy release, you can actually feel that seal crack and down it comes. The sound on the tin roof was just deafening and at night you could see the monsterous silhouettes of trees briefly flashed against the curtains with each strike of lightning. Then the glorious after smells and fresh, green landscape all washed and new..... shivers of pleasure

kisses in the rain are oooooh so pleasurable aren`t they?

truly wonderful post K

You may find this odd Kleo but...I thought of you when I saw the sky this morning...and this was before you left the comment on my 'Natures Wonders' post.

...I remember a comment you wrote on one of KylieW's posts about this weather being your favourite...so I just had to comment when I saw this post!

I'm not a rainy weather person...however I do welcome it and appreciate its (her?) nourishment and cleansing...

And I will admit...when snuggled in bed with my beloved husband...Rain is...ambrosia...

Hope you are well Kleonaptra.
