themed sketches

Before I got fired I started doodling...
This is just the usual standard mess....The similar objects and themes coming together with no significant pattern. I suppose you could say the theme to these is distortion in harmony...I try and create conflicting and disturbing images presented in an eye pleasing way. The words I force in around the images are always a message, mixtures of movie and tv quotes I find important and illuminating, as well as my own fragmented ranting.
A few years ago, when Kman and I first got into a little card game called Magic, The Gathering Kman bought me the 'Torment' pack, a gaming pack including cards and specialized dice, and a book. The book was part of the storyline that the cards were following at the time, and it was 'Chainer's Torment'.
I often fall in love with characters - completely, obsessively. Chainer is a magnificent character. Although the book is obviously aimed at the pre to mid teen, its well written and the story moves along nicely, and if you have a good imagination the imagery of the book will lead you right into Cabal city and Chainer's world. There are a few places - Like where Chainer says, "Get stuffed" - where you can tell the author is a little frustrated. Chainer would never say 'stuffed'. Chainer would pick a far worse curse word, but hey, its for the kiddies, so see 'stuffed' but read 'fucked'. Also in the fights - the author is just about to let rip with blood and gore when he checks himself. Despite this frustration, I ate it up, along with all the shades of Chainer's character.
At the end of the book, Chainer accidently kills himself. I was crushed. It hurt even more because I PLAY black, I have Chainer's card, and thus he is more real to me than his companion Kamahl, who is a red card. Kman plays red, and has Kamahl.
But it led me to create a character of my own.....A Dementia master like Chainer, who I call Maharetta.
My reason for creating Maharetta is that Chainer, when he died, died as a result of his inability to control the amount of dementia space he had aquired. The mystical object the Mirari had enabled him to create his own huge dementia space but also control that of other casters, and when he tried to contain it, he was unable to. This is the lesson of the Mirari - even those who think themselves able to use it will fall to its curse - absolute power corrupts absolutely. If the Mirari is used lightly and with respect - how Chainer uses it originally - then it is safe. Once you seek to unleash its greatest power it turns on you.
( In the world of Otaria it is split into five races, Those of the Krosan Forest - green, those of the Pardic Mountains - Red, those of all the Oceans - blue, those of the Plains - White, and those of the Cabal - black. In its attempt to have the greatest warriors the Cabal have trained Dementists or Casters, who can create creatures in their imagination and make them real in fights. All Casters have their own 'dementia space' where their monsters are kept until they are needed, and all have unique ways of calling forth their creatures and restraining them.)
My book begins a good few years in the future - perhaps 50, perhaps 100, really it doesnt matter, but Cabal City is rebuilt and in a greater state of its former glory. The First of the Cabal, The Patriach, has in his employ a Dementist named Maharetta, who is of such unbelievable power that he keeps her in the palace and available at his call. As a higher member of the Cabal, Maharetta has no responsabilities and thus can practice her magics all day. Her abilities take a massive leap forward the day she realizes she can actually give life to forms that have died - Fascinated by the ledgend of Chainer, she summons him as if he is a nightmare creature and gives him life.
Now, despite my best efforts I have no idea where we are up to in the Otaria story, hence, I have no idea if my book would 'fit' into the storyline. I have no idea what Wizards of The Coast think about me effectively ripping off so many ideas to create my own. But to me its a tribute, a tribute to how much I love the Magic card game and specifically, the character of Chainer.
And recently, I thought to myself, what if Maharetta had a daughter? Someone Chainer could fall in love with? Someone like him, who uses a chain as a weapon, and creates the most unbelievable nightmare monsters.
Meet Caster Razza...
I have no doubt I will eventually write this story complete with sketches and card ideas for my main characters. What will Wizards of The Coast think of it, I wonder?
