Kalikapsychosis - "Perfection is what its about. When you can feel, the perfection, of creation. The beauty of physics, the wonder of mathematics all the elation of action, and reaction, and that is the kind of perfection that I want to be connected to" - Sam, hooked into the data stream

VOTE 1 BB - Society's voice

March 21st 2007 02:50
I do not believe in coincidence. In my world, there is no such thing. Every thing that happens is cause and effect, inextricably connected. So it was no surprise to me that my Big Brother post went up in the same week as the first Big Brother ads, just a very happy 'coincidence'.
I found it particularly intriguing that my post was on that particular subject - Big Brother always being a current piece of society, a voice for the now, and that that is their first advertising line - Vote 1 BB! Society's voice! Of course, they are running for connections to the elections this weekend, but isnt it lovely how the two subjects coincide? (hehehe)
Now, I know many of you who are my current readers just dont 'get it' and believe me, for years I agreed with you. I thought it was rubbish. I cant even remember what got me hooked, just that I found myself slowly hypnotized until I couldnt look away. I think I was reading "1984" and started watching to see how well they were utilizing Orwell's principals. What I ended up seeing was my favourite thing of all - Stripping away the masks to the pure humanity beneath. It was this more than anything that captured me, as I am utterly obsessed with humans as animals, loving how we call ourselves 'civilized' yet latch on to murder shows and porn, and the most civilized of us still grunts like a beast in the throes of passion!
The latest Big Brother series utilized Orwell's principals more so than any other, and it was solely the addition of 'moles'. These 'moles' to me were a direct cross over to the 'inner party' adressed in "1984", peoples who were responsable for keeping society under wraps and recieving rewards such as decent food for it. I was so, so proud of Gretel that night she handed over copies of the book to two contestants - girls who had stupidly asked "why is it Big Brother instead of Big Sister?" For a good 5 to ten minutes Gretel explained the connection and handed over two copies of the book, encouraging the audience to read it too. It was my hope that the entire audience would rush out and read it, as the principals are very much relevent to todays society, and throwing it up in a reality TV show is a magnificent way of highlighting these issues. Aside from the relevent issues, its also a CLASSIC, and a ripping good read!
Sadly, I fear the major audience have ignored the literary version and are patiently waiting for the new series. I dont blame them - I cant wait to meet the new contestants, see if they have deliberately chosen people who conflict, or chosen people who 'click', see what the 'setup' is for this year, not to mention the new house! And lets not forget BB's 'promises' like a politician he promises all sorts of things to suck us in, and only rarely comes through with all of them, like the politician he's being portrayed as at the moment.
I doubt they'll be smoking, I doubt they'll have toilet paper, and I cant wait to gripe about it. However I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see the outcome of 'adults only'. The fact the show is back at all is a good sign, they obviously havnt taken johnnys famously catalouged advice from last year - "axe the stupid show" (you're the stupid one, johnny) but the fate of BB and its dark horse 'adults only' are already under review - and the show hasnt even started yet! Apparently last year despite the amount of people banging their pots and pans together, there were very few ACTUAL complaints to the TV station. BB holds true that it has not - ever - broken the rules of its classification or timeslot, yet people are allowed to complain if they find it offensive, through the correct channels.
A phone tree has been activated and now it is being ADVERTISED how to complain. Who to call, who to send a letter to, who to email. So instead of it just being 'hot air' it is actually recorded as an official complaint. If enough official complaints are registered, the show HAS to be axed by law, and thats what these whiney babies are after. My question is this - WHAT DO WE DO??? What of the 3 million plus people who DONT want to get rid of it? Who do WE complain to, who do WE email?
My suggestion? Fuck em. Put all BB shows, every single one, in an MA classification after 10:30PM. All of us adults will be fine, and explain THAT to your kids! I must now bring up my strongest point - People fear that which they do not understand. Fear creates less understanding. Big Brother terrifies people because they dont want to admit, that yes, this IS society today, it IS a snapshot of what our young people are thinking, feeling, becoming, and the greatest crime going on here is the fact that the older generation will not admit this. The older generation continues to believe against all the evidence that it is not channel ten's fault, it is not Big Brother's fault, these really are the kids YOU raised!
If you dont believe me, if you dont believe Big Brother, if you dont believe the news reports everyday, then I strongly encourage you to go out on a Fri or Sat night to Sydney, and watch the young people of today interact. It looks just like an episode of 'Adults Only' complete with intimacy, nudity, and heartfelt sentiment on the issues affecting young people today.
You have an army of over 3 million people here Channel Ten, and Big Brother. Give us our orders, show us how we can be most helpful in this fight.

Kleonaptra, you certainly are a passionate writer and passionate advocate of BB.

I can appreciate that BB is not everyone's cup of tea, whether it is a true reflection of society or not. It shouldn't be axed, especially if there are 3 million people watching it every week. People just should be made aware of what it is that they will be watching if they switch to BB. As far as I can tell BB have always disclosed what is going to happen in an episode so no-one is really going in blind - not knowing what they were watching.

Personally, I'm a bit tired of the nudity aspect of the Adults Only episodes. What intrigues me is the conflict that occurs. For that reason I might watch an episode.

I haven't read 1984 but I have seen most of the movie. I didn't watch it all - I was too young to have seen what I saw I think. Anyways, BB in the Gold Coast seems like a bit of a softy in comparison.

For you Kleonaptra, I hope BB is everything you want it to be.

Love & stuff

I have read 1984 and loved it. Tried to write another based on its theme's revisited about the year 1994.

Adults only - not for me.

But, Newton's third law, with that I do agree.

Keep up the good work you busy little beaver, I know to compare you with an animal friend is the ultimate compliment, for me, I'm Magnus, and I do know how to spell it. I guess all that Latin at school did help.

You're getting better and better. They talk about the long arm of coincidence and with that, too, I do agree, which makes us similar but different.

Mrs M,
Once again, I thank you. I never thought Id be somebody fighting for BB quite the opposite actually, but here I am! I really appreciate your comments, and yes, before every single adults only show last year we had three (yes THREE) warnings, and Gretel would state that the show had adult content, to change the channel if you find it offensive. What burns me right up is the "how do I explain this to my kids" when if they go out on Fri night thats what they see and live anyway, yet those same kids are allowed to watch OC or SVU with no supervision. Dont get me started on that!
Wendi and Katyzzz -
Are we back in high school? Are we going to have to have that very embarassing conversation, look Im friends with both of you and its not a competition so just knock it off?
I'll make it simple - any fighting between two people I have respect for will be deleted on my pages from this moment on. I simply will not have it. Confine it to personal messages, if you have to!
Katyzzz, No surprise adults only isnt for you! Pray we never meet - I'll find that dark side of yours and let it out! Thankyou for you compliments, I usually do get better with time, like good alcohol.
Wendi, sorry. This will not be tolerated another time!

Kleo -

My apologies. I shouldn't have acknowledged it in the first place. Please feel free to delete my comment. It was inappropriate.
