Kalikapsychosis - "Perfection is what its about. When you can feel, the perfection, of creation. The beauty of physics, the wonder of mathematics all the elation of action, and reaction, and that is the kind of perfection that I want to be connected to" - Sam, hooked into the data stream

Waiting on eggs

December 8th 2011 10:49
Waiting is not something I do well. My catch phrase from the High School year book was "I cant wait!" and it was so unbelievably true. Ive been known to go red in the face, sweat, bloat and register fever high temperatures while waiting for something particularly exciting to begin. Alongside that though, we have my infinite patience when dealing with a young horse, and the amount of people heard to exclaim "you have SOME patience" after dealing with an animal that almost drove them to murder.

Last saturday, after 3 10 hour shifts, I thought I heard cheeping and cracking. It was just delirium though.

On Sunday, I candled, and saw in 3 eggs perfectly formed, miniture ducks. One who jumped in shock at the sudden light and transparent shell. It made me so very happy.

It was about Tuesday I gave up on ClearEgg and CrackedEgg. I had candled and saw nothing but darkness in them, and people reporting 'bad eggs' exploding and infecting the good ones really scared me. I didnt toss them...But I moved them away from the others.

Yesterday and today I was really hoping to see some development, as I'll be working pretty much non stop into next week. Of course, obstinate little things that they are, they have done nothing. But maintain correct temperature. Of course, because by now they are generating a little of their own heat.

I sit and stare at them, certain I can see tiny little movements, hear the beginnings of cheepings and tappings. Of course, by now they would be developed enough to move the eggs a little, and the crinkly movements Im sure I can hear would be the beginnings of internal pipping. Its not enough for me that they are probably ok, that they are probably little ducks. Its also not enough for me that my dear little Wist hatched upside down, backwards and without being turned or misted at regular intervals. I have to see I have to know I have to HELP! Im terrified by the idea of a duckling dying at internal pip - not quite making it through the shell. If I hear peeping, Im probably going to pound holes through the shells.

Which is probably why they are waiting for my 10 hour shift days.
