Kalikapsychosis - "Perfection is what its about. When you can feel, the perfection, of creation. The beauty of physics, the wonder of mathematics all the elation of action, and reaction, and that is the kind of perfection that I want to be connected to" - Sam, hooked into the data stream

We know nothing

November 2nd 2009 01:46
The great Lestat once said, that life is meaningless, because, even after death, we shall never know the reason for being alive.

This statement can be taken in so many ways, and that, I have found, is the problem.

I recently stumbled on a little religion (cult? How about we just call it 'school of thought'?) called Theosophy. You see, after breaking from the hard narrow thoughts of the Catholic Church, heavily influenced by Christopher Pike and his love of all things Hindi, I began to put together a set of spiritual ethics and morals I would feel good living by. I decided to be unique and different, and use my significant second sight to help me on this path. With ideas and ethics come actual thoughts on history, its unavoidable, thoughts on communal concious and evolution of the universe. No matter how hard you try to keep these things singular and impersonal, it becomes about everyone as to deal with anything related to 'God' is to deal with all life.

When I stumbled upon theosophy, I discovered that this little creed Id been following, that I believed Id made up myself, was not new. It has in fact, been around for a good long while. Like most speakers of truth, the leader is defamed as a fraud and a charlatan. I can see why. The silly girl decided to fake some miracles, deciding that the end justifies the means, and getting people to listen, no matter what the cost, was the important part. Therein she made herself look exactly like the other religions she was picking apart, and became just like them - a singular root of perfect truth that fragments in its actions. Perhaps this is simply what is bound to happen in all religious sects - no matter how pure the intention, how perfect the truth, it becomes distorted in each individuals interpretation.

For me, the fact that someone who lived about 100 years ago came up with my exact philosophy, using the same paths and tools, is to me utter proof that God exists and the universe is infallible. Here I am thing Im a ground breaker, coming up with this mind bending shit, only to find someone added up the exact same equations as me and ended up at just the exact conclusion.

Now, for a few minutes there I was all set to become a member of the theosophical society. But after a bit of reading 'Isis Unvieled' online, Ive decided against. I still resist being a part of any particular organised religion. Theres some deep sense in me that its the wrong way to go. Many in my generation - and the one after it - feel the same way.

So here is the birth of new thinking, equality and actual truth, generations which have no loyalty to any particular creed. Simply a universal code of ethics and morals that does not form dogma.

And what is it based on? We Know Nothing.

Human beings like to think they know stuff. Since we first started scratching on walls the basic idea was to make an impression. No other species bothers to do such a thing, so therefore we must be greater. We must know stuff. We created civilization so we could be comfortable enough to properly evaluate our place, not just on this world, but in the entire universe. Now we are comfortable. And we have decided that no matter how much we know, we still know nothing. While knowing nothing, we still affirm that we do, in fact, know stuff, its just ok to say that it means nothing. The knowing of stuff.
