Why I hate John Howard

May 16th 2007 03:53
First of all, let me just praise the times and place we live in - where I can publicly have a go at a government figurehead and not go to jail/gaol.
Ive had this post on the warmer for a bit. Im very political, but you wouldnt know it. I tend to keep my opinions to myself for fear of looking like a fool. For that reason, I planned this post with references and links and evidence but I still have none of that, only opinion. I dont really care if I look like a fool....
Johnny, how could you do this to me? I hated you, distinctly and with passion, and you seduced me, you drew me in with your logic and your drive and you romanced me and told me how wonderful it was all going to be. I believed in you man. Then you threw it back in my face. You took every promise and logical argument that made me love you and twisted it and turned it and betrayed my newly found trust.....I dont trust you, I cant love you for this. I dont care if Labour sends us broke - I dont want you anywhere near that throne, or in Bush's lap. Worst of all, youve gone senile. Youve totally lost it mate, its obvious whenever I see you in front of the camera, no body's home anymore. Youve resorted to schoolboy name calling and petty tricks.
Oh, Johnny, whats become of you?
Years ago, when Johnny first got in, I wasnt old enough to vote. He was up on our screens saying that the GST would fix all our problems. That our unfair tax system would be changed and we'd all be so happy. I didnt believe a word of it. I didnt want no GST. Sounded like a great way to charge us even more tax and hide it even better. At this time I said to quite a few people, Why is it just, the old system, or the GST? Wouldnt it be better to invent a NEW system thats fair to everyone? Well, people looked at me like Id just sprouted a hydra head. How ridiculous. Something new? No way.
Johnny prevailed. He got in. Murderously I watched as the percentage of GST on EVERYTHING (even stallion services!) went up and up with no sign of stopping. Of course, Johnny blamed this on individual business', how could he be responsable? Still it rose, and continues to rise today. Every product and purchase is at minimum 5 dollars more than it was ten years ago. Even worse, when I went to get my tax done, I found nothing had changed, nothing was fairer. We were still getting taxed an exorbitant amount AND now paying it in our goods and services. This is a very bad joke now. How much fucking money does the government need?
Over the years, Johnny seduced me. I admired his cool manner with hecklers. I admired his easy manner in the house. He always seemed so on top of things, a man you could trust, a man who was just WITH IT. He got us noticed, he changed our pace, full up on the new race, I followed suit and bolted along with the other rats.
I was working a job where I made $30 an hour on a normal day when I first heard about the IR changes. On a public holiday in that job I would make $60 an hour. I was also a memer of National Union Of Workers, one of the biggest unions. Well, we went apeshit didnt we? Rallys, meetings, newsletters, it was never ending. I began to hate Johnny with a fever and a passion Id never before experienced.
You sly son of a bitch, to bring those laws in at a time you could not be opposed. To do it in such a sneaky manner. Do you have any idea how many people youve hurt? How unfair this system is? I recently saw an article in the 'Daily Telegraph' where a small business praised the changes. The photo showed two ethnic looking guys in a fast food joint.
Im not racist, this is not a racist term, but we call these 'wog shops' where you go for that bad kebab or much needed sausage roll. They like to hire and fire at will. To these people who pay you out of the drawer and call you 'whenever' the IR changes are a godsend. Whats super? Whats a tax file number? Dont need it.
I was particularly burned by small business owner David Waite(Im pointing the finger buddy!) Who runs Mango One in the west. He's a small fruit and veg organisation. Hes ripping Johnny off as well as taking advantage of the IR laws. In your first week you sign up for a 'government training certificate' which means the government pay part of the wages. Everyone signs up, but they dont get their concession cards, they dont get training or certificates, Dave just gets the free money. On top of that, he changes your hourly rate depending on his mood, pays you right out of the drawer(because the 'accountant' is forever on holiday) and never once asks anyone for a tax file number. I tried to impress my super details on him time and time again, to no avail. The bastard fired me a week before christmas because I had a personal emergency and was late to work.
And what happened when I tried to dob him in for all of this very illegal shit?
No one wanted to know. 4 hours on the phone with IR state, IR federal, the tax department, and the super police and I got absolutely no where. It wasnt till I got to the guy on the super line that he explained the trouble to me.....And he really did say this guys, Im not making it up.
"After the IR changes, the law favours the employer too much for anyone to want to make a move. I feel really sorry for people like you - youve been burned, you try to do the right thing and no one wants to do anything about it. We appreciate your call, your concern, yes, its wrong, but with the amount of legal loopholes an employer now has not even government agencies want to get involved"
Can you believe that? Not even the government agencies that are getting ripped off by this bastard want to get him! Dave will get whats coming to him - hes hurt too many people by firing them and not paying them, and this isnt a large area. Its just not smart to piss off so many people. But Johnny, man, this is your fault! This is just one example of one tiny place that has successfully hurt over 20 young people, given them a taste that working a job means getting screwed over by the government AND your boss!
But really, now, I hate you Johnny for losing it. How dare you go so senile? Honestly, the little school boy digs at Rudd are getting old. Do you realize you are leading PEOPLE? People youve hurt, people who want revenge. Its not fair for you and all your buddies(Rudd included) to live on such extravagent budgets when DO YOU REALIZE a quater of your salary could set me up FOR LIFE!!!!! How much did YOU spend on lunch today Johnny? I spent about 10 cents. I bet yours was at least $5000. How do you justify that, when the very reason you have crime is because of this division in class? If the lower classes felt they had a CHANCE, just a CHANCE to live a day without worrying about next weeks rent, petrol, childcare, food etc they would not steal and kill and maim. It is helplessness that drives crime.
And....AND he has put forward the ridiculous idea of nuclear power. We are not as large as America, we dont have half as much space in which to hide nuclear waste. I abhor the very idea of a nuclear plant here, but it just isnt viable - cant you see that?
So, thus, here it is, I hate John Howard. I hate him with a desperate passion, and I want to see him shuffling down the street with holes in his shoes. I want to see him trying desperately to live on MY budget, because I cannot respect anyone that cant understand perspective. Get your head out of the clouds you little dick, take a look at whats happening around you.
Awhile ago Kman and I were watching family guy - 'Petoria' episode. When Peter goes to the United Nations he's in the back row. I made a funny analogy that had Kman in stitches. Once Australia was in the back row. We sat there in our blue singlet and thongs, chucking paper aeroplanes and saying "This is boring. Can we go get some fish and chips and a stubby now?"
Now we have a little nerd in glasses sitting in the bloody front row with his pencils perfectly aligned to his notebook, listening aptly to whatever bullshit is being said and nodding enthusiastically.
Hand me that piece of paper.....I feel an aeroplane coming on.

Hi K,

I don`t go much into Politics - coming from a country where the last person you look to is anyone to do with Parliament, The Police, the government.... the shady characters are the good guys where I lived - they could get you the essentials!

in a country which now has an inflation rate of over 1700% (and I think that is underrated myself), where speaking your mind could mean you may just 'disappear' one night, where petrol comes and goes every now and again and means sitting in long petrol queues for hours and hours on end and walking down the street carrying the wrong newspaper could get you arrested I'm pretty happy with the man who runs Australia at the moment. I realise that is a really naive and stupid place to be but this is certainly a case of the grass being greener!

Give me a few years to get used to the luxury and I may get converted

Why thank you Mrs M. It wasnt fair for him to win my respect by being so with it, then just losing it. Man, look into his eyes when hes on camera - he doesnt even know where he is anymore!
Ash,
I did adress that fact in my opening. I am extremely appreciative of the luxury we have here - remember, I have lived in Korea! Kman and I nearly starved to death there on a working contract!
I made sure I opened with that because I do appreciate it. Fact is, hes leading us, but he's forgotten that we are people at all. It means nothing to him. The higher class need to wake up - imagine the good we could do as a country if that wealth was spread around. While we are here, we fix here!

Kleo

You are not the only jilted lover over King Johnny.
My instincts tell me that he is finished this time.
Mess with the hip pocket people get mad.
Mad people vote hard.

ah yeah I fully realise that I was just trying to convey the reason as to why i have no interest in politics at the moment. I really should wake up to it because it affects me too! My grandfather was a Politician apparently. I look forward to a time when I can go and learn more about him... I am hoping to write a book about it actually!

Damo,
Yep, I agree, thats why I felt I should tell my side....Australia is very big on 'revenge voting' and how dumb is he to forget that!
Ash,
Just take a casual interest....It doesnt really matter whether we care or not, its the governments job to screw with our heads....
